Hello MMU community!
TED Talks are coming to MMU on June 2nd! The event will take place in the MMU Auditorium, and the doors will open at 4pm.
What are TED talks? TED is an organization that aims to share knowledge through the compilation of 20-minute, or so, presentations given by brilliant people who have ideas worth sharing. These talks usually take place at large conferences held all over the world, which are then recorded, and uploaded to the TED youtube page to share with the rest of the world.
Why MMU? MMU has a pretty incredible community surrounding it, and many great minds that haven't necessarily had the opportunities to share their knowledge. Thus, it is with great pleasure and excitement that we are announcing the inaugural TEDxMMU event! This night of learning, discussion, and music (Band of The Land will make a guest appearance) will give us insight into the experiences and work of some of the amazing community members we are lucky to call neighbors. Ann Gnagey, Barbara Cochran, and Phil Graff will be speaking to the theme of making the most with what we have. Each will bring a fresh, new and different perspective on how they have taken this mantra to heart.
What about tickets? Tickets will be sold at the doors the day of the event. The cost of the tickets will be up to you. If you think it's worth five dollars by all means pay five dollars, but there is no price. All proceeds will go towards the first donation and creation of the MMU Speaker Series Fund. This fund will only be used to the effect of bringing in future guest speakers or for paying any costs associated with hosting a speaker.
Why more speakers? We believe that learning directly from incredible people enriches student's academic life, and is a great way to involve the community in the education of future generations of effective, engaged, citizens.
