Special Commemoration event to be held at Grand Isle Cemetery, Route 2, Grand Isle

At noon on Saturday May 28th there will be a ceremony and dedication to one of Grand Isle’s early settlers, Grindal Reynolds, a Revolutionary War Veteran who settled here in 1788 and has many descendants still living in the islands.

Mr. Douglas Reynolds of Massachusetts was working on his family ancestry and discovered that Grindal had a direct line of descendants where a male member of every generation had served in the United States Armed forces down to a current resident of South Hero. There will be a ceremony and setting of a Sons of the American Revolution grave marker dedicated and placed at the gravesite to be followed by a reception at St Josephs Church where there will be a video presentation Mr Reynolds has put together for this event. Descendants of Grindal Reynolds will be coming from all over the country to attend.

The ceremony at the gravesite will include several tributes, a talk on Grindal’s story, musical performances and placement of the Sons of the American Revolution marker.

This event is being conducted with the support of the Grand Isle Town Office, Cemetery Commission, the Vermont and Massachusetts Societies of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Grand Isle County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10854.

This should be a fascinating experience for anyone interested in local history.
