Lower taxes, better maintained roads and bridges, and a new source of revenue for the Vermont State budget will be the focus at the New Economy Night on Sunday, October 13th in Enosburg. The presentations and subsequent discussion will focus on how a Vermont State Bank can make these things possible. The event will take place at the Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 323 Church Street, Enosburg Falls, at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
The event is the first in a New Economy Week series of events occurring all over the state. It focuses on how Vermont is leading the country with socially responsible business practices, local investment, creating and supporting cooperative and employee-owned businesses, and measuring economic progress via the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI). Vermont is also leading the country in the use of complimentary and/or alternative currencies such as Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility's business to business exchanges, and most recently looking at public banking initiatives like a Vermont state bank. The New Economy Week initiative developed the Town Meeting campaign that calls on the legislature to create a State Bank.

Speakers include Hallsmith, Marc Armstrong from the Public Banking Institute, and the new musical group, the New Economistas, comprised of a singer and guitarists (and maybe more) who will provide some lighthearted folk music between presentations.

New Economy Week is co-sponsored by Vermonters for a New Economy, Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility, The Donella Meadows Institute, Global Community Initiatives, Digalicious, Green Mountain Global Forum, and the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics.
