At 6:15 p.m. on Monday, May 23 Rich Warren of Starksboro will be presenting a talk entitled The Beneficial Bacteria in Your Gut and Your Health and Wellness. This is a free event and non-members of the Bristol Health and Fitness Club are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Human microbiome research has revealed that, in addition to diet and exercise, there is a third element that influences our health and wellness, and that is the composition of the microbes in our gut. People who seem unable to lose weight in spite of their careful attention to diet and their more than adequate exercise program, may never be able to reduce and maintain their weight until they get their gut flora into a better balance. Many things have been going on in our society and culture to throw our gut microbes out of balance, but the good news is we can change our microbiota composition. We will learn how we can increase and nurture the beneficial bacteria in our gut and how we can keep the non-beneficial bacteria underfed. We will conclude with recipes that are helpful for our gut flora and actual food preparation. Several food items will be available to try.
