Important Voice from Syria in St. Johnsbury

Past event
May 24, 2016, 7 to 8:30 PM

I want to invite my friends and neighbors to come hear Syrian author Osama Alomar read from his work at the Athenaeum next Tuesday. I've had the privilege to work with Osama over the last eight years, translating his stories into English, and helping to bring his unique literary vision to a North American audience. It's hard these days to get a sense of Syria beyond the dimensions of the present conflict. Osama's work provides a unique and powerful glimpse into contemporary Syrian literature and the courage of Syrian artists and writers in their stand against political oppression and sectarianism.

Besides the reading at the Athenaeum, we will be at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Sunday morning at 10:30, to speak about "A Writer's Work in a Time of War" and share our translations of other contemporary Syrian poets. Please join us for both events, and consider coming out to the Benefit Concerts for Syrian Refugees in Burlington & Montpelier this Saturday and Sunday where Osama will also present his work.

Even if you can't come, please spread the word about this rare opportunity to hear a powerful voice from Syria!
