Books ‘N Brunch Reading Series Kick-Off at Jeudevine Library

Past event
Jun 11, 2016, 9 to 10:30 AM

Books ‘N Brunch is a book discussion series which will kick off on Sat. June 11 at 9 AM at the Memorial Building in Hardwick. This series features Pulitzer Prize winners dealing with “International Migrations to or from the United States” to celebrate the Centennial of the Pulitzer Prize. Come have brunch while discussing the book and this timely topic!

The first book, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, is a book of stories about people navigating between the Indian traditions they've inherited and the baffling new world where they have moved. The characters seek love beyond the barriers of culture and generations. In the title story, an interpreter guides an American family through the India of their ancestors and hears an astonishing confession.

The discussion will be led by Jim Schley who holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Native American Studies from Dartmouth College and an MFA in poetry from Warren Wilson College. He has edited more than a hundred books on a wide variety of subjects. He is the author of a poetry chapbook, One Another and a full-length book of poems, As When, In Season.

The Vermont Humanities Council and the Friends of the Jeudevine Library are sponsoring this series of four books with discussions on four Saturdays: June 11, July 9, August 13 and September 10. Copies of the book are available now at the Jeudevine Library for anyone who wants to participate in the discussion. For more information call the library at 472-5948.
