Join us in celebrating some of the Burlington area’s great women through their writings. We’ll share telling, poignant and often humorous excerpts from historic letters, diaries, stories and poetry. This month’s featured historic writer is Mabel Augusta Ruggles Cobb of Westford, Vermont. Cobb was an award-winning author and poet, a Vermont state legislator, and one of the founders of the Vermont Poetry Society. Her great-granddaughter Emily Lee of Burlington will share passages from Cobb’s letters and writings which include children’s literature, letters from her travels overseas, and poetry.
Contemporary women from the audience will also be invited to read from their own childhood journals. How about you? Do you dare to share?! The event will take place on Monday, May 23rd from 7pm – 8pm at the Light Club Lamp Shop, 12 North Winooski Avenue, in Burlington. Free and open to the public. Audience participation is strongly encouraged- bring your childhood journal and sign up to read at the event (no pre-registration necessary). Contact info@preservationburlington.org for more details.
