Calendar 2.0 Forum. You Should Go. Oct. 10

Next Thursday evening, the Champlain Valley Superintendents Association is holding a community forum at CVU to discuss the proposed Calendar 2.0. Many feel like this calendar is already a "done deal," and that these forums are just a formality, but recent events (check out the Free Press article on last night's forum in Essex) suggest that community input is actually making a difference. Even if your kids aren't in school, it might behoove you to attend this meeting--our school budget didn't pass last year, and I'm pretty sure this calendar change won't be free.

These are the questions I would like answers to; I'm sure there are many more that others have, too. But you can't ask them if you're not at the meeting.

Kids were slipping and falling at CCS because the floor wax was melting this August. With two extra weeks of summer heat, how are kids going to be kept safe? Are there going to be opportunities for enrichment, or just remediation, during intercession weeks? If not, does this mean intercessions are meant to just improve test scores on standardized tests? Who is going to be teaching intercession weeks? Who is going to pay for the extra teaching, since it goes beyond the contracted 175 days?

If there's no actual data to support that this schedule improves learning regression, why are we doing it?
