Are you one of those folks who still has questions about what Act 46 means for St. George & Chittenden South Supervisory Union?

Please join me on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 7:15 pm at the St. George Town Hall where I will be discussing this very issue with the Select Board.

Chittenden South Supervisory Union Act 46 Study Committee Background:

In September 2015, a committee formed with representatives from the towns of St. George, Williston, Hinesburg, Charlotte, & Shelburne. Our task was to investigate the possibility of a merger between the five individual town districts and CVU. Effectively, consolidating seven (including CSSU) into one central district.

Our towns represent one of Vermont’s largest supervisory unions with five towns, six schools, 4000 students, nearly 900 employees, and combined budgets of $70 million. Many of the services are ALREADY centralized within CSSU including: curriculum development, negotiations, policy, financial services, human resources, professional development, special education, IT support, and transportation.

The study committee and its three subcommittees (Finance, Governance, & Communications) met thirty-five times since September. And in April, we presented our findings in a report and presentation to the State Board of Education. The CSSU Act 46 Study Committee proposal met with unanimous approval from both the Board and the Secretary of Education.

What does that mean to the voter? On June 7, 2016 there will be a district wide vote regarding the possibility of a merger for CSSU.

As we prepare for a vote, we remind our communities that we have a long tradition of shared governance. Approximately one-third of the PK-12 students in CSSU attend Champlain Valley Union High School, which operates under the authority of shared governance. Our high school and central office budgets together represent two-thirds of the SU’s combined budgets, which have been adopted and managed through centralized systems. We encourage you to find out the facts.
