"Merchants of Doubt" Film Showing - May 17

Past event
May 17, 2016, 7 to 9 PM

Join us at Richmond Congregational Church (downstairs in Fellowship Hall) on Tuesday, May 17 for a free showing of the documentary "Merchants of Doubt." This 90-minute film exposes a concerted strategy by Exxon and other corporations to create doubt about the facts of climate change by using pundits-for-hire who present themselves as scientific authorities. The film exposes how the fossil fuel industry learned from and effectively used tactics developed by the tobacco industry.

Based on the book by Naomi Oreskes, the film includes industry reps, climate scientists, investigative reporters, global warming deniers, and environmentalists. It gives a riveting behind-the-scenes look at how the fossil fuel industry has been so successful in blocking government action on climate change. Even if you think you already know the story, come see this important film! We'll have discussion following the film for those who can stay. Light refreshments will be served.
