Please mark your calendars for next Saturday's Operation Bloom Plant and Seed Swap (5/21). The Swap runs from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Richards Park in Winooski (at the intersection of Dion and Lafountain Streets).
Winooski gardens are really starting to come alive! It's a great time to divide or "thin" out plants that have become too large or gangly, or have stopped blooming which can happen from overcrowding.
If you have plants that need thinning in the next few days, please save your extras to bring to the Swap to share with your neighbors. (A grocery bag with a little dirt and some holes punched in the bottom works fine; add a little water and keep thinnings cool and shady until Saturday.)
In addition to perennial flowers, there are also perennial vegetables that can be shared. Folks don't always think to bring rhubarb, horseradish or lovage but they are always gladly received.
Some gardeners have started their plants from seeds and started more than they need in their gardens. Please bring your extras to share with your neighbors!
The Swap is free and fun, so don't miss this annual Winooski event. You don't have to bring anything to swap, but donations or non-perishable food items are gladly accepted.
Hope to see you then, and happy gardening.
