Ed Pearlman is internationally known as a teacher and performer. Over the past 30 years, he has focused on fiddle music, especially music from Scotland and Cape Breton, but also New England contra, Irish, French Canadian, jazz, klezmer, Hungarian, musical theater and classical.
Ed directed the Boston Scottish Fiddle Club in monthly workshops for 18 years, directed major concerts and festivals, and recorded a solo album and several with a fiddle orchestra and top soloists. He teaches at Maine Fiddle Camp, and many other camps including Pinewoods, Ashokan, Swannanoa, Rocky Mountain, and 16 summers at the Ohio Scottish Arts School. In 2005 Ed was a featured performer and teacher at the Blazin' Fiddles music camp near Inverness, Scotland.
Ed performs often as a duo with his son Neil on piano, and with Highland Soles. Ed is the music columnist for Scottish Life magazine.
Ed's Scottish fiddle workshop is geared toward various levels, from advanced beginner to advanced. Ed will present a manageable way in to the feel of a strathspey, and you will come away with a set of good tunes -- such as a 6/8 march, a strathspey (4/4) and a reel (2/2/) that could all be played together in a medley. Working by ear, you will learn the phrases and structure of the tunes with email recordings sent to you following the workshop so you can continue working with the tunes.
