Public Hearing on Vermont Gas Pipeline Through Weybridge

Past event
May 17, 2016, 7 PM

On May 17th at the Weybridge School, there will be a public hearing to decide if Vermont Gas (owned by Gaz Metro, Canada) should bring its fracked gas pipeline to our neighborhoods on Pulp Mill Bridge Rd, Pleasant View Terrace, and Orchard Lane. Vermont Gas has recently fired two companies for incompetence. This, with gas leaks and explosions obliterating businesses in Ashland Ohio (this week!) and neighborhoods in Seattle and Connecticut (in the last few months,) and over the last few years in New Jersey, New York, and California, I am clearly concerned. Vermont Gas has made it sound as if this is a cheaper option, but currently, gas prices are higher than oil and prospected to rise. As for the conversion costs, rental conversion equipment costs $23/month or $276 annually; installation of an oil to gas conversion burner costs about $2000; replacement of a furnace/boiler costs anywhere from $2,500-$10,000; and, decommissioning/removal of an unused oil tank as required by State Law costs anywhere from $500 to $3,000! We have the power to fight this. Please come and speak up at the hearing.
