Benefit Concert for Syrian Refugees - volunteers needed
There will be a major benefit concert to raise money for Syrian refugees:
Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 pm at the First Congregational Church in Burlington, and
Sunday, May 22 at 3 pm at Montpelier High School Auditorium
Pianist Michael Arnowitt has created a special program entirely of Syrian music (of many different styles) and readings of poetry and prose written by Syrian authors. Altogether, there will be 30 performers, featuring an ensemble of mixed Western and Middle Eastern instruments, vocal soloists, a choir, actors, and spoken word artists. Special Syrian-born guests will be on stage, joining us from Chicago, Albany, and New Haven.
We could still use some more volunteer help for these two concerts. A
volunteer tasks page is at http://www.mapiano.com/vol2016.htm
Full information about the concerts is here: http://www.mapiano.com/syriaus.htm
No tickets are necessary - donations of any amount will be taken at the door.
Half the funds raised at these concerts will support assistance given Syrians at a refugee area in Turkey one mile from the Syrian border, and the other half will go to Syrian refugees being resettled in Rutland, Vermont this fall.
Call 802-229-0984 or e-mail MA@MAPiano.com if you'd like to help. Of particular need at the moment are people to proofread (both words and music), people to assist with computer entry, people to distribute flyers/posters, and people to work as stagehands.
