Thurs., May 5th @ 7 PM
The Jewish Community of Greater Stowe (JCOGS), in conjunction with the Greater Stowe Interfaith Coalition, will present an evening of commemoration, music and imagery dedicated to the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust.
On the evening of Thursday May 5th, Holocaust Memorial Day, also known as Yom HaShoah, Rabbi David Fainsilber of JCOGS, joined by local Stowe clergy, will honor the memory of victims, delivering readings and remarks to community.
Featured performers of the evening, soprano Rachel Joselson and pianist Rene Lecuona, both professors at the University of Iowa, will present a program entitled “Songs of the Holocaust.” Their unusual and moving repertoire of Holocaust-themed music will be illustrated with photos of Holocaust art created in concentration camps, railcar transports to the camps, and of liberation. Songs composed during the Holocaust, performed at the Theresienstadt concentration camp, as well as songs inspired by writings of concentration camp prisoners, will be performed.
The Holocaust Remembrance Commemoration at JCOGS is free, accessible, and open to the public.
JCOGS is located at 1189 Cape Cod Road in Stowe. For more information on the commemoration or the Jewish Community of Greater Stowe please visit www.JCOGS.org or call the office at 802-253-1800.
