On Thursday May 5th from 4 to 7 pm the Burlington Police Department and Mayor Miro Weinberger, together with a variety of community partners, will host the third annual Meet Your Police community event including free food, entertainment, information booths, bouncy houses and kid-friendly fun.
This year we are taking the BBQ out of the park and moving it to North Street from North Champlain St to Elmwood Avenue. This is a great opportunity for the community to meet and talk with officers and staff in a social setting and discuss issues of importance informally. This is a City wide event and all are welcome to come. We hope to see you all there!!
Among the activities and information available during this event will be:
● A barbecue/picnic with food provided by the many community sponsors
● Music and entertainment by DJ Craig Mitchell
● Touch a Truck with emergency and other city vehicles on hand
● Equipment demonstrations – have you ever wondered how much a police equipment belt or bulletproof vest weighs?
● Information about the Community Police Academies
● Recruiting information about jobs within the Department and careers in policing
● Tables and information from over 30 community partners
● Meet officers and staff from other City Departments and neighboring agencies
● Distribute multi-language brochures on crime prevention, personal safety, reporting crime, and providing feedback/making complaints about police operations.
● Musical performances by the community and presenting partners
● K-9 Demonstration
● Parks and Recreation’s Playmobile
● Face painting, a clown, the Big Blue Van, 2 bouncy houses and other kid-friendly fun
● Potential demonstrations by many different local sports teams
● And more
