Spring has long been the time when Vermonters Green Up, and this fall, for the first time, Vermonters will be “Buttoning Up.” On Saturday, October 5th the first statewide Button Up Vermont Day of Action is happening. The day is being spearheaded by the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network (VECAN), and local events have been organized by the South Burlington Energy Committee.
South Burlington residents have the opportunity to view a professional energy audit at several homes around the city. Three local weatherization contractors will demonstrate how they find where houses lose winter heat and answer your home weatherization questions.
Performing a professional home energy audit is usually the first step to reduce your home energy usage, and is required for obtaining financial incentives from Efficiency Vermont and Vermont Gas. Often, the homeowner must pay for the audit, so the chance to see firsthand what an audit entails is a valuable experience. Visit one or all of the three free open home energy audits happening around the City on October 5.

Jim Merriam, Director of Efficiency Vermont notes that where energy efficiency is concerned, many small actions can add up to a big impact:
“Vermont has long been a leader on energy efficiency, but we still have a long way to go in meeting our state’s home energy goals,” he said. “Button Up day will be a chance to celebrate our communities – and take real actions to move the state forward while helping Vermonters save money on their energy bills this winter.”
