May Movie at The 99: "Money for Nothing: Inside the Federal Reserve." Possibly somewhat too kind to the Fed, this movie focuses on Alan Greenspan's reluctance to regulate the banks as the cause of the the crash of 2008, describing it as a sort of personal failing, largely ignoring that when you have a huge powerful institution run by bankers you shouldn't be suprised that it favor's bankers' interests. Nevertheless, it doesn't stint on criticism of the disasterous consequences of such centralized power, ostensibly set up to protect Americans but actually working to protect the wealthy. Saturday May 7 at 5 PM at The 99 Gallery and Center, on School St. across from the Family Dollar in downtown Newport. Free.
