Hearing on Zoning By-Laws May 10

The Starksboro Select Board will be holding a hearing concerning the new proposed zoning by-laws on Tuesday May 10th at 7 pm in Robinson School. I will not be able to attend myself however I would like to encourage Starksboro residents to go to the hearing and find out changes to zoning that are in the new by-laws.

There are two changes that I have become aware of that have me concerned. One is the possibility of planned unit developments are allowed in many more places in town than I ever thought was possible, One beautiful field presently zoned agriculture, is being changed to allow a density of housing that I think would change the nature of our agricultural community. Another zoning change would allow commercial storage units to be built in a field next to and in front of the Brookside trailer park. I am not against storage units, but should they be put in the front of Brookside? I could see a soccer field there, just by mowing it and encourage the youth living in Brookside to use it.

I agree with Dan baker, we need an updated town plan, a vision developed by the residents as to what Starksboro can be like and then in response the zoning board can develop a zoning plan to enact and reflect the town plan, but lets do first things first.

Our main road, 116 through Starksboro could be treated as the special road that it is, preserving the beauty that we all enjoy, and I hope we don't lose that.
