In their continuing effort to share the many paintings in the Springfield Art and Historical Society collection with the public, once again, there will be a free, one day Art Show at the Great Hall, on Saturday, May 14th from 1 to 5 PM.
This year’s offering includes the only remaining historic Springfield theater curtain. There was most likely a “curtain” at the Town Hall prior to the opening of “Dreamland” the first movie theater in 1909. There exists a photograph of the curtain that hung in the Ideal Theater, which was the remodel of “Dreamland.” However this mid-1930s curtain, with its 19 advertisements, from the Grange Hall is the only one left. Chris Hadsel, the director of the restoration project “Curtains Without Borders” in Burlington, VT, will our guest speaker. She also came to Springfield and helped with the restoration of this curtain.
There will also be a short presentation on selected work by artist Lesley Crawford. Lesley was a summer resident in the Dutton District and the Society is pleased to have this opportunity to share some of her fine work with the public.
This one day show is free and open to the public and replaces the usual third Saturday program at the Society’s North Springfield location
