Free community screening of The Hungry Heart in the cafeteria of Whitcomb High School in Bethel at 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 5. The 93-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion with Raina Lowell, a recovering opiate addict whose story is depicted in the film, and representatives from Vermont State Police and the Clara Martin Center as well as a local pediatrician.
This powerful Vermont based documentary about opioid addiction, treatment and recovery, was directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Bess O’Brien of Kingdom County Productions. The film received national attention and was honored by Gov. Peter Shumlin as a catalyst for opiate addiction awareness in Vermont.
Both Whitcomb Jr./Sr. High students and Rochester Middle/High School Students will be screening the film earlier on the same day at the Rochester School auditorium and be meeting with Raina Lowell and discussing substance misuse and its aftermath.
