Neighbors- I was recently contacted by a couple of neighbors on Manhattan Drive who were concerned about the build up of trash around the entrance to the 127 bike path and the surrounding slopes down to the Intervale. In response, we will be doing a clean up of that area from 10AM - Noon on Sunday, May 1. We will gather at the Chubby Muffin at 10 am. Bring work gloves if you have them. I know that Green Up Day is May 7th (Next Saturday), but we wanted to get a jump on this area and provide another opportunity for folks to help clean up our neighborhood.
Moving forward, the Parks Department has also agreed to place a trash can in that area that they will regularly collect. Additionally, I am continuing to work through an ordinance change with Public Works that would phase-in larger, covered recycling toters to all properties to prevent recyclables from blowing out of the smaller, uncovered bins. We have already done so for larger buildings, and it has worked well. There are, however, thousands of units in smaller buildings that still are not required to have these toters. It will take time to phase the toters in, but we will hopefully get the changes approved in the next couple of months and start the phase in shortly thereafter. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this. Hope to see you Sunday!
