Spring is officially here, and it’s time to get in shape for Hardwick’s Spring Festival Fun Run/Walk! With the lack of snow this winter, the Hardwick Trails are drying up and will soon be in good shape for foot traffic. This year’s spring festival Fun Run will incorporate the Hardwick Trails to take advantage of these conditions. The traditional 1km Fun Run for kids under age 10 will start at the Hardwick Inn at 8:30 Sat. 5/28 and follow the usual course down Rte 15 and Wolcott St., looping back along West Church St. 5km walkers will also depart at 8:30 but will head up N. Main St. to the Tech Center, where they will enter the Hardwick Trails and follow a well-marked route along the trails, finishing back at the Hardwick Inn. Runners will depart at 9 am and follow the same route. This year we are reviving the tradition of awarding prizes based on completing the course closest to your predicted time, so don’t delay too long in getting out and trying the route! Entry fee is just $10 ($5 for kids; 1k run is free) for registrations received by 5/26. (Fees go up $5 the day of the event.) Proceeds from this event will benefit the Hardwick Trails and NEK Kids on the Move, a program that encourages healthy lifestyles among area youth.
