Noise, trash, construction, vibrancy, entertainment, intellectual stimulus, and economic driver- these are among the many descriptors used regarding the University of Vermont and Champlain College. Your opportunity to discuss all of these issues and more with each other, university officials and student leaders comes this coming Thursday October 3 at the Ward 6 NPA meeting. Because of the importance of the items on the agenda the meeting will be "supersized." Come early, come late, leave early or stay late but above all attend and participate.
At the meeting we will present an open forum that provides community members the opportunity to air all their concerns and comments, both positive and negative, about Champlain and UVM. We have invited key college officials and members of the respective student governments. We hope to have an open and honest dialogue. We have found that in the past when the community participation in open, the result is greater cooperation and understanding - often alleviating situations that were previously unknown. Contact any of the NPA Steering Committee members for any comments and questions that you might want to address even if you are not in attendance.
Emphasizing the "town gown" theme of the meeting, Champlain College will discuss the recently approved student apartment at the site of the former Eagles Club on the corner of St. Paul and King Street.
Finally, representatives of UVM and Champlain have been invited to explain activities and benefits on each campus that are open to the community. Other meeting agenda items include:
• A presentation by the Burlington Advisory Committee on Accessibility
• The Office of Health Care Ombudsman
• Updates from our School Commissioners and City Councilors. THE UPDATE FROM OUR CITY COUNCILORS HAS BECOME PARTICULARLY NOTEWORTHY SINCE THE CITY COUNCIL HAS VOTED ON A REDISTRICTING PLAN THAT SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGES THE EXISTING WARD STRUCTURE
While we would love to see you in person the meeting will be videotaped for airing on CCTV and streaming on its website. The meeting is at the Greek Orthodox Church, 600 South Willard Street, although access to the parking lot is from Ledge Road. Head south on St. Paul, South Union or South Willard (they all merge into Route 7) to the traffic circle. You will see Majestic Car Rental at the corner of Ledge Road and South Willard. Go around the circle and head east (uphill) on Ledge Road. The second driveway on the left goes to the Church's parking lot.
The meeting begins at 7:00PM.
