WARREN CHURCH: TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE LED BY JEROME MONACHINO AND OTHER MUSICIANS FROM ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE. The Taize Community, named for its location in a French village of the same name, was founded by Brother Roger in the late 1940’s as a place of ecumenical worship, peace and reconciliation. In the years since, it has become a place of pilgrimage for people who stand not only in the Christian tradition but others as well, with thousands--many of them young people—flocking there annually. Three times a day, the brothers—100 of them from diverse places around the world—lead the large congregation (up to 10,000) in a time of communal prayer. This worship is in a very distinct style. Short texts, taken mainly from the Bible and put to lovely and simple music, are sung over and over again by the gathered community, often with vocal and instrumental descants. This repetitive singing, alternating with prayer and silence, is primarily for the worship of God. However, it is also meant to quiet our souls—something we all need in this day and age. Jerome Monachino of Eight 02 Jazz and head of the St. Michael’s College Chapel Music Team and other musicians, will lead us in this one-hour time of prayer and provide beautiful musical accompaniment. All are invited. The event is free.
