“Return to Light,” a celebration of sunlight and spring, will be presented by The Randolph Singers on Sunday, April 24 at the Chandler Cultural Center in Randolph. The concert will begin at 4 p.m.

“The long, gray slog of winter is behind us,” said guest conductor Marjorie Drysdale, “and we’re ushering in the new season with song!”

Drysdale has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in Vermont’s musical world, as a soloist, choral singer, conductor, and music teacher. She led the Randolph-based auditioned group, “ Sounding Joy!” for almost 30 years. Drysdale stepped in to lead the Randolph Singers this term when Artistic Director Lindsey Warren of Montpelier took a leave of absence.

Accompanist Marta Borgstrom also is well-known in the area as a beloved elementary school music teacher, piano teacher, and accompanist for countless projects, including the annual Chandler youth musicals.

This year’s concert will feature spirituals, classical works by Tallis, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Fauré, and contemporary compositions by Rutter and Lauridsen, all centering on the theme of light.

Solo vocalists include Olivia Swayze, Bob Crino, Chris Smith, Sophia Mueller and Natalie Strand.

The Randolph Singers, founded in 1968, have started planning for their 50th anniversary. In October they kicked off their fundraising efforts with a Russian Banquet, themed to their December performance of the Rachmaninoff Vespers, directed by Lindsey Warren. A grant from the Lamson Howell Foundation, as well as major underwriting by Mascoma Savings Bank and Catamount Solar, are also helping the group as it prepares for a special Golden Jubilee celebration in 2018.
