The 27th Annual COTS Walk will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2016. The Walk is a 3-mile trek around downtown Burlington starting from Battery Park, following the route a person who is homeless might travel to receive shelter and services.
While COTS’ programs meet the most basic needs of the homeless and those at risk in VERMONT, we are proud of our PREVENTION work. Research has shown that homelessness is particularly devastating for children. We see these stresses on our youngest clients in our family shelters and provide support to parents in minimizing these impacts. We are delighted to say that last year we prevented homelessness for over 318 Vermont households, averting this terrible dynamic for many children.
In the coming year COTS will be developing new strategic initiatives to address the many causes of homelessness. The diversity in our funding stream allows us to be more entrepreneurial and private funders want us to test new approaches, to take risks that government funding would not allow. We believe that the measure of our success is whether we take advantage of this unique opportunity to INNOVATE. So, we are grateful to you, our private funders!!!!!
Here is more information about the COTS Walk: Registration opens at 1 p.m., and at 2 p.m., participants are led down Church Street, Main Street and into surrounding neighborhoods to see COTS facilities up close and personal.
