Preview of April 11 City Council Meeting

Past event
Apr 11, 2016, 7 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its second of three meetings for the month of April. Following a brief Local Control Commission meeting that will begin at 7pm, the Council will begin its Council meeting with a presentation by Ward 6 resident and Economics professor, Stephanie Seguino, on Burlington Police Department racial disparities in traffic policing. Stephanie has done a great deal of research and study on this topic and will be speaking to us about an issue of great importance as we further our commitment to community policing.

After this presentation, we will be voting on two indoor entertainment permits, one for Zen Lounge on Church Street and the other for Foam Brewers on Lake Street. We will then have a presentation and update on the Burlington Town Center redevelopment. We will receive a communication from Chief of Police Brandon del Pozo on addressing the opiate crisis and the creation of a community stats person. We will then be voting on a resolution that would create a full time opiate policy operations manager position within the Police Department.

We have a resolution on protecting bees and pollinators. Our last deliberative item is a presentation on the Former Burlington College land and an update on the bike path improvements.

We have two Executive Sessions on Monday evening. The first is on the Burlington Town Center redevelopment and the second is on the Former Burlington College land.

Prior to our Executive Sessions, we will have Council committee reports, comments from Councilors and the Mayor.

As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website:
https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday.

My best,
Karen
