In one of the sure signs of Spring in central Vermont, the annual People's Health & Wellness Clinic Bowl-A-Thon is set for Saturday, May 7, 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Twin City Family Fun Center. This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the event, and some special activities are planned to make this year's bigger and better than ever.
Form a team and register now! It's time to put your teams together, have some fun, and help out a good cause at the same time. Lanes will go fast, so don't delay in registering your team. All ages and skills are welcome! Call the Clinic at 479-1229, or download the registration form on the Clinic website: www.phwcvt.org.
Teams ideally consist of five bowlers, and are asked to raise a minimum of $50 each for a team total of $250. But don’t stop there. People who raise more than $100 or more will be entered into a drawing to win extra prizes, such as dinners for two at local restaurants or other valuable merchandise or services. Top prizes are given to the top individual and team fundraisers – including an overnight for two at The Pitcher Inn, in Warren.
“The Bowl-A-Thon is our major annual fundraising event,” said Clinic Executive Director Peter Youngbaer, “and it's grown every year.” “It's a great opportunity for people to go out, promote community awareness, and raise money to help provide needed health care to those who can't afford it,” he added.
Thanks to the National Life Group Foundation, all participants bowl for free, including balls and shoes. Twin City Family Fun Centers new snack bar and lounge will be open. There will also be prizes for top Individual and Team scores, a 50/50 Plus raffle, and other surprise drawings. Media support is provided by the Times Argus, the World, WDEV-Radio Vermont Group, and L. Brown &Sons. Dozens of central Vermont businesses become Lane Sponsors and donate prizes. Those interested should contact the Clinic at 479-1229. All proceeds go directly to Clinic services.
“Some teams are very creative and show up in costumes or unique bowling shirts. It’s a great way to have fun, win prizes, and help out a good cause, all at the same time,” Youngbaer said. “Of course, it's also Green-Up Day in Vermont, and many of our bowlers do that in the morning, bowl in the afternoon, and get home in time to watch the Kentucky Derby. We even had one team come all dressed up for the Derby, including fantastic hats on the women. You never know.”
The People's Health & Wellness Clinic is in its 22st year of providing primary health care and wellness education to uninsured and underinsured community members of central Vermont who cannot otherwise afford these services. Medical care, mental health, body work, and the Clinic's newest services – oral health – are just some of the offerings available.
