In my mailbox, I found a letter from the police department. Did anyone else receive this letter in their mailbox?
It reads:
"The Winooski Police Department will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013 at 6:30 PM in the council meeting room at city hall to discuss and plan for organization of local neighborhood watch groups."
As I was running this morning, I saw this nice man working on the front window of his house - painting it etc ... This was on St Peter St. I stopped to ask him, if he had heard about the numerous break-ins we've been having in the county lately, and he knew nothing about it. He told me he didn't get a flyer like I did about the meeting, or someone removed it before he could get a chance to see it.
We introduced ourselves. I let him know about FPF, so he could sign in like some nice folks did for me in my neighborhood. I filled him in on the particulars of what has been going on in the neighborhoods about the break-ins in Winooski.
I continued running, and I saw that about 1 out of 4 houses had windows open. Really? This has to change. We need to reach out to each other and let the word out.
Whenever I have reached out to people, they and I have been very receptive/grateful for the information we have shared. Information is POWER. The more we reach out to our neighbors, the better off we all will be. The old fashioned values of talking with your neighbors over the fence is great for sure. The greatest impact is to reach out to our neighbors we come in contact with on the day to day happenstance.
I look forward to meet most of you Wednesday evening, Oct. 2nd. at 6:30 PM. I am already thinking of ideas I want to share and questions I want to ask. Be prepared. We are privileged to have a Police Dept. who cares enough to do this for us. The department has been visible, but with our help, we'll make a great team and have a greater impact.
Be safe and see you there,
PJ
