Waterbury Reader Improv Troupe

Past event

Intentionally inclusive, and wildly feminist community improv group--always open to new members! We’re almost your usual improv troupe except we are intentional in our language that assumes everyone is in the room--and wanting to laugh! Examples of this are: avoiding stereotypes, and not using certain groups as the “butt” of the joke. We’re a safe play zone to try something new! We’re “adult” rated so roughly 21 and up for age.
What is improv?
Improv is a form of theater in which the elements of the scene - the characters, plot, dialogue and more - are made up in the moment. You may be familiar with improv from shows like “Whose Line is it Anyway”. True improv doesn’t have to be funny, but it usually is, because it tends to showcase our humanity in often surprising ways.
Answers to your questions:
Who is the organizer? Where do I find you? Answesr: I am. Z Bandelier. The Facebook page for the group is thus: https://www.facebook.com/readerimprov/ I can be contacted through there or suisapere@gmail.com
Has the group started already? Answer. Yes. We have rolling admissions policy. $4 bucks for a drop in and $10 bucks for the month.
When: Every Tuesday at 7:00-9ish
Where: Green Mountain Performing Arts 37 Commercial Drive, Waterbury, VT 05676 At the intersection of Route 2 and Route 100
Option: I'm currently developing an improv program that would be useful for pre-teens/teens, and another one to use improv as a therapeutic tool. Inquire within for details.
Do you need experience to join? Answer. Nope. In fact, it’s more fun if you don’t. We are a safe play zone. Experience is cool, too. Just show up ready to have a good time, and learn something new.
Can I just come in a watch? Only on the last Tuesday of the month--that’s where we’ll take a 2 dollar donation (which goes directly to the studio we currently are practicing in).
Isn't inclusive a given? Why the emphasis of inclusive, and feminist? I wish it was the norm, but sometimes both get lost whilst attempting to be funny, and comedy/theatre can and should strive to include everyone.
Does this mean you are political correct? Answer: Well, yes....and no. No, you shouldn't bring your young kids, but you should feel comfortable however you identify regardless of what that identity/non-identity would be.
Give it a try!
