On Monday April 4th at 6:15 at the Rumney Library the Act 46 Committee with conduct a community forum to discuss and present information about Act 46, the current progress of the Act 46 Study Committee and the anticipated future steps regarding potential consolidation . Act 46 is essentially a school consolidation/merger bill the Legislature passed last year to encourage if not compel school districts to consolidate. The preferred model is a single board, single budget model for all of the memeber districts and if the preferredmodel was adopted then the local boards would dissolve. Act 46 provides for presentation of other governance strucures but the Agency of Education must approve the governance model proposed. The Act 46 Study Committee, composed of representative from each of the member districts of WCSU has been meeting regularly at U-32 hearing presentations touching on governance, curriculum, administrative leadership issues, and property tax issues and is still working thorugh the process of reaching a consensus on a recommendation to the Full Board of WSCU on how to proceed. Adrienne Magida and Chris McVeigh have been serving as Middlesex representatives on the Study Group. The meetings have been taped by ORCA and are available for viewing on the WCSU website, just follow the prompts. Additional information about Act 46 is on the WCSU website. Ultimately each town in WSCU votes on whatever recommendation the Full Board adopts. Please come to the forum with questions, comments, and thoughts for the Study Committee to consider and to share what values are important to you as Middlesex community members in regard to Rumney Memorial School. Thank you for your time and consideration. Chris McVeigh
