The Brookfield Community Partnership hosts its Fall Feast on Saturday, September 28th at 6pm at the Old Town Hall in the village of Brookfield. Celebrate the change of seasons and bid a fond farewell to the 2013 summer series at the Old Town Hall with the final large gathering of the season. Bring family, friends, and neighbors out for a harvest potluck dinner and live music by Big Hat, No Cattle, along with a food swap, harvest-inspired kids' activities, and the conclusion of the summer raffle.
The Brookfield Community Partnership will supplement the potluck by partnering with local farmers (and hunters) to provide main courses featuring chicken, beef, and moose. Please bring your favorite harvest dish and a place setting. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided; guests are welcome to bring beer or wine if desired.
Big Hat, No Cattle will be swinging out from Montpelier, playing and singing old and new songs in a vintage western swing style. The band is: Kevin Macneil Brown on steel guitar, guitar, and vocals; Michael Ricciarelli on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and vocals; David Blythe on bass and vocals, and Danny McHugh on drums. The Big Hat boys play the music they love with skill, finesse, heart, and a sense of fun!
There will be a “Food Swap” table for anyone interested in trading homemade or homegrown goodies with friends and neighbors. This could be anything from the garden or kitchen - get creative! How about potatoes, squash, or kale? Applesauce, chicken soup, or pumpkin pie? All items should be valued at at least $5. Call Shelby with questions or for more info, 276-3535.
This event promises to be fun for the whole family! Fall-inspired kids’ activities might include pumpkin painting, leaf tracing, potato printing, and apple bobbing.
The Fall Feast will be the final opportunity for folks to enter the Brookfield Community Partnership’s Summer Raffle before winners are drawn at the end of the evening. Prizes include a beautifully handcrafted child’s sled from Norton’s Toboggans, a “Vermont Godiva” print by Ron Slayton, and a Thanksgiving dinner including a turkey from All Together Farm, apples and cider from Liberty Orchards, a cheese board from Vermont Creamery, a fruit pie from Turkey Hill Farm, veggies from Camp Merrishko, and more. Tickets are $5 each or $20 for 5 tickets. If you’d like tickets but can’t attend the Fall Feast, contact Shelby at girard745@yahoo.com or 276-3535.
This fun, festive, and free event is sponsored by Gillespie Fuels, the Frankenburg Agency, and Vermont Community Foundation’s Small & Inspiring Grant.
