Environmental Rabbi Keynote at Vermont Jewish Communities Summit in Stowe April 1 - 3

On Sunday April 3, Vermont’s Jewish Communities will meet in Stowe for a celebration of Jewish life in the Green Mountains. Come enjoy the lovely village of Stowe, the outdoors, meet the friendly community at Jewish Community of Greater Stowe (JCOGS) and enjoy Jewish arts, culture, spirituality and learning. You will find something that interests you!.

"Mind, Body and Soul" is the theme of the weekend. Summit sessions will be held on Sunday, April 3, from 9:30 a.m.. to 4:30 p.m.. at The Stoweflake Resort and at Jewish Community of Greater Stowe (JCOGS) located next door .A Jewish Retreat (shabbaton) will precede the Summit on April 1-2.

All ages are invited to attend a portion or the entirety of this weekend-long celebration of Jewish culture and learning . This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with friends and connect with members of Jewish organizations around Vermont. Against a backdrop of music, food, and art, attendees will participate in presentations, workshops, a resource fair, and peer cohort meetings. Children's programming will be sponsored by PJ Library in Vermont and will feature musicians Robert Resnik and Gigi Weisman and musician and storyteller Matt Witten, A teen Shabbaton will be held at JCOGS. Other weekend activities include: Shabbat Dinner, optional services, Torah study, recreational outings, storytelling, music, and meditation. There will also be plenty of time for schmoozing.

The highlight of the Weekend will be a presentation by Keynote Speaker Rabbi Ellen Bernstein. Rabbi Bernstein founded Shomrei Adamah, Keepers of the Earth, the first national Jewish environmental organization in 1988, after finding her way back to Judaism through her interests in wilderness and ecology. She has been dubbed the " birthmother of the Jewish environmental movement" and "a pioneering thinker who helped define modern Jewish environmentalism." She has published numerous articles on the topic of Bible and ecology and is author/editor of three books on Judaism and Ecology: Let the Earth Teach You Torah (1992), Ecology & the Jewish Spirit (1998) and The Splendor of Creation: A Biblical Ecology (2006).
