Author Stephen Russell Payne will open the program sharing details of his nearly three years researching and writing Riding My Guitar – The Rick Norcross Story, followed by Rick Norcross performing a selection of his award winning, often humorous, Vermont songs, many written about Hardwick experiences. “I’ve had the privilege over the years of writing stories about many fascinating Vermonters but none has been as much fun and as moving as telling Rick Norcross’s amazing life story. Rick and I have made many appearances at Vermont Community Libraries and at reading groups with folks who have read the book. I must say, it is heartwarming to see the standing ovations he invariably gets after performing a few of his iconic songs,” said Stephen Russell Payne. “Come join us and learn how Rick’s father lit the Main Street of Hardwick on fi re and, as a kid, how Rick burned the eyebrows off a longtime Shelburne bully!”

Stephen Russell Payne is a fourth-generation Vermonter from the Northeast Kingdom town of St. Johnsbury. A lifelong writer, he has published fiction, non-fiction and poetry in a number of publications including Vermont Life magazine, the Tufts Review, The Vermont Literary Review, Livin’ the Vermont Way magazine and Route 7- Vermont Literary Journal. He has also written a critically acclaimed novel, Cliff Walking, is finishing a sequel to Cliff Walking and has completed a book of Vermont short stories currently being readied for publication.
