Preview of March 21 City Council Meeting

Past event
Mar 21, 2016, 6 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its second of two meetings for the month of March. The Council will begin its evening at 6pm with a work session on the process of identifying the buyer/partner for Burlington Telecom. The Burlington Telecom Advisory Board, made up of community members and City Councilors, has been working on this list of criteria over the past few months. We have also had a number of public meetings to hear from the community on this issue as well as a few months for written comments. The Council will vote on the criteria next month.

We have a brief Board of Civil Authority and an equally as brief Board of Tax Abatement meeting which will take place at some point after we convene our regular City Council meeting following the work session.

We will open our Council meeting with a congratulatory resolution honoring the Burlington High School Boys Basketball Team who are the State Division I Champions! Our congratulations to the entire team, their coaches and all the parents and loved ones who have supported the players and all our high school sports.

Following this resolution, we will have a presentation on the BT criteria. This will be an abbreviated version of the work session for those who were unable to attend the 6pm session and another opportunity for the public to hear about this important issue.

We have one other resolution to vote on. This one will authorize the City to move forward with a license agreement to obstruct the sidewalk, street and greenbelt to allow for the construction on North Avenue and Haswell Street for the COTS Housing project. This will be followed by a presentation from Burlington Telecom on the business operations of BT. Part of the presentation will be in open session and part will be in Executive Session. We will also have Executive Sessions on the pre-development agreement on the Burlington Town Center redevelopment, an update on the New Moran project and an update on the UVM Memorandum of Understanding.

Prior to our Executive Sessions, we will have Council committee reports, comments from Councilors and the Mayor.

As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website: https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday.

My best,
Karen
