Sacred Harp, or shape note singing, is early American four-part a cappella singing of hymns, fuguing tunes and anthems using shape and syllable notation. An inclusive and democratic community singing tradition that was preserved in the rural South throughout the last century, it is now experiencing a revival with groups learning to sing the music throughout the US and Europe.
Newcomers are welcome, in fact, the tradition was born from colonial singing schools whose purpose was to teach beginners to sing and our methods continue to reflect this goal.
Join us for a few hours or the whole day. Come to sing or just to listen. Loaner books will be available. All welcome, no experience necessary.
Potluck Dinner on the Grounds at 12:15pm; all are welcome to share in the meal and fellowship.
Parking is available in a public parking garage across the street from the church.
