Bow-Making Class at Mountainsong Expeditions:
Students enrolled in this class will spend four days learning the complete process of bow making. The finished product will be a Hickory Long Bow Backed with Clarified Deer or Elk Hide with a custom weight and draw length. The class will start with splitting staves from a well selected tree and preparing them properly for curing. Next we will cover bow design and mechanics and students will design a bow template to match their own hopes for their finished product. We will be using primarily carving hatchets, draw knives, spoke shaves, rasps and files to shape our bows. After shaping the raw form of our bows we will learn how to tiller, balancing the two limbs of our bow into equal action for a smooth and consistent shot at desired draw weights and lengths. Once complete we will back the bows with raw hide and make bow strings out of dacron and serving. The class will culminate in a Archery Clinic focused on the practice of instinctive shooting. The cost for this workshop is $595, which includes all materials for your bow and lunch each day. This workshop is open to all genders.
