You are invited to attend a free, open, sing-along of early American music on March 19.
Vocalists of all abilities are welcome. Come to sing or to listen. It is not necessary to ‘read music.’
If you saw the movie Cold Mountain, this is the type of music which was sung in it. It is also known as shape note singing and is sung a cappella in four parts. Originally a Christian tradition, it is now sung by those of many faiths – or those who are not religious at all. Having begun in New England more than 200 years ago, it retained its popularity in the South and is now experiencing a revival across the USA and in Europe.
Date and time: Saturday, March 19, 2016, 10:00am - 3:30pm. Come for all or part. Sing or listen.
Place: First Congregational Church of Burlington, 38 South Winooski Ave, Burlington, VT 05401
Potluck Dinner on the Grounds at 12:15pm; all are welcome.
Parking is available in a public parking garage across the street from the church. The first two hours are free. Some limited parking is available on site. Parking spots available for those with physical challenges and bicycle parking are available at the church.
