Meeting on Tuesday, March 15th to Discuss Proposed Changes to One Section of the Stranahan Forest Management Plan

Contrary to many rumors that seem to be floating around regarding the Stranahan Forest, the select board is not planning to clear cut sections of the forest, require logging, take wood, logs or other products off the property for the sole purpose of supplanting the tax income lost, or to take other drastic measures on the property. Our current goal is to establish some guidelines in the management plan that will help create a functioning committee that will work collaboratively and effectively on behalf of all citizens in Marshfield to help manage and improve the Stranahan Forest as prescribed in the management plan.

At the next select board meeting scheduled for 6:00 PM, Tuesday, March 15th, we will spend the first hour of the meeting reviewing only the proposed changes to the “Organization and Management” section of the management plan and the proposed job description for members of the Stranahan Forest Committee.

The proposed changes to the management plan are only in the area of “Organization and Management” which impacts the structure of the committee, how to become a member of the committee, and responsibilities of the members and the committee in the management and oversight of the Stranahan Forest of behalf of the town of Marshfield.

In addition, we will also review the proposed “job description” for the Stranahan Forest Committee which further outlines the major responsibilities as listed in the management plan. This tool is proposed to be used to recruit members to serve on the committee.
