"Walking in the Footsteps of George Perkins Marsh: Vermonter...Conservationist...First U.S. Minister to Italy"
On Saturday, March 19th, from 1-3 p.m., The Vermont Italian Club and the UVM Dept. of Romance Languages will co-sponsor a talk about George Perkins Marsh in 427 Waterman Building on the UVM campus. The talk will be given by John C. Elder, professor emeritus, Middlebury College. Marsh, a Vermonter, was the first U.S. minister to the new nation of Italy from 1861 to 1882. Marsh is considered by some to be America's first environmentalist and a powerful advocate of the sustainability concept. (No charge.)
