Edible Landscaping for People and Pollinators is the topic on Sunday, March 6th at 2:00 PM at the March Gladness program at the Johnson Public Library. The presenters are Nancy & John Hayden from The Farm Between. The Hayden’s use ecological principles to grow cold hardy organic fruit & plants, and to maintain a 14-acre pollinator sanctuary. Learn how helping pollinators helps all of us.
This presentation will introduce the common insect pollinators, including native bees, and issues facing them including pesticide toxicity, loss of floral resources and habitat, and disease and parasites. Ideas for planting cold hardy fruits and other plants on your property, enhancing habitat diversity, and eliminating pesticide use will be presented. Since many of our important fruit, vegetable and nut crops are dependent on insect pollinators for proper fruit set and yield, helping pollinators also helps ourselves.
Hosted by the Johnson Conservation Commission, this March Gladness event if free. Information at 635-7826,
