Berlin residents—come and enjoy dancing at the Grange Hall on Saturday—for free!
Dancing at the Grange Hall on Rt. 12 has been a tradition since the Hall was built there (by volunteers!) starting in 1952. The Grange is happy to share this tradition on Feb. 20th, from 8:00 to 11:00 by offering free admission for Berlin residents to the CDU Contra Dance. This dance always welcomes new dancers of all experience levels. The caller will be Will Mentor, a nationally known caller and teacher of contra and square dances. He will teach every dance before it starts, and help everyone have a good time. The music will be provided by “Shindy”, an all-star group of musicians from New Hampshire and Massachusetts: Randy Miller, Roger Kahle, David Cantieni and Ann Percival, who will bring exciting rhythms to move your feet. No need to bring a partner—this is a social dance where you will have the opportunity to dance with neighbors and new friends. We do ask that you bring a pair of clean, soft-soled shoes to help us protect our dance floor!
The Grange is seeking to function even more as a Berlin “community hall”. We are asking Berlin residents to grant a property tax exemption for the Grange Hall. Our Hall has been part of Berlin since 1952, and is completely maintained and run by volunteers. It provides a venue for many kinds of dances, classes, plays, weddings, baby and wedding showers, and much more. The request will be voted on at the Town Meeting on Mar. 1st. In return for the tax exemption, the Grange is offering to provide free rental of the Hall to Berlin organizations and families, a minimum of 2 times per month. Please support our plans to increase our connections with Berlin, to and support building more community ties in the Town by voting “YES” to tax exemption for the Grange Hall!
For more information, please call Tim Swartz, Master of the Grange at: 225-8921, or check out our website: www.capitalcitygrange.org to see all the events and read about the Grange, the improvements we have already made, and our plans for more.
