ACS Budget Information Meeting

Past event
Feb 25, 2016, 7 to 8:30 PM

The Board of Directors of the Addison Central School will have a public meeting on February 25, 2016 to provide information to the public about the ACS budget. The audits will be available at this time as will details of our budget, tax rates, Act 46 and the articles of unification. All are encouraged to attend.

The business of school boards is carried out in their monthly publically warned meetings where the elected board members are convened to offer reasonable opportunity to any person in the school district to appear and express views in regard to any matter considered by the school board. The board also conducts the business set in the agenda of the meeting. All meetings follow Open Meeting rules and Robert's Rules of Order. The business of the board is not properly carried out in Front Porch Forum which is not a warned public meeting.
Recently there have been multiple postings on Front Porch Forum questioning the Supervisory Union and individual school boards about various topics. The author of these postings has attended the ACS December and January Board meetings but did not bring any of these issues up to the Board. The main focus of the author's interface with the Board was school choice and the creation of a taxpayer funded Village School in Addison not the issues she raised in her FPF posts.

I am sure that all the citizens of the five towns are interested in making our schools the best they can be in the most cost efficient way. I would suggest that attendance at local school board meetings in front of your elected Board of Directors is the most efficient and productive and transparent way to make this happen. Courteous face to face discussions are productive and essential. Raising issues and demanding responses in an electronic medium (FPF) is not an Open Meeting it is a bully pulpit.
