(Morrisville) LEDC/VtSBDC Offering New Workshop on The Lean Office

The concept of the Lean Office environment is derived from Lean manufacturing, Lean enterprise or Lean production, or often simply “Lean.” It is a practice that considers the expenditure of resources for any goal other than the creation of value for the end customer to be wasteful and a target for elimination. Essentially, Lean is centered on preserving value with less work. Office processes too often suffer from multiple problems – missing or incorrect information, delays, mis-communication, changing priorities, mistakes and ineffective tools and technology. The Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center has developed an effective approach to dramatically improving office processes.

This workshop is a very high-level overview of some of the concepts, tools and techniques that are used to reduce waste and make improvements in office processes. With a mix of content and interactive exercises drawn from multiple sources, this workshop will provide participants with a solid understanding of how office processes can be improved. Concepts to be covered include

● Lean; fix the process, don’t blame the people
● Process thinking
● Saving time in office processes
● The organized computer desktop
● Standard work, find the best way
● Value Stream Mapping: identifying waste in complex processes.

If your business includes a busy office and you would like to learn how to make it run more efficiently, effectively and in a way that saves money, then this may be the best three hours of your time you spend this year.
