Talk on Botanical Trip to Washington State and Vancouver Island
Illustrated talk by Don Avery, co-owner of Cady’s Falls Nursery in Morrisville.
Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 1 to 3pm at Waterbury Senior Center, 14 Stowe Street, Waterbury. Free parking across the intersection of Main and Stowe Streets in the Waterbury Congregational Church lot.
Washington has a very diverse ecology which offered a fantastic array of flowering plants and ferns last summer. Don’s main objective was to observe the western maidenhair fern in many diverse habitats. He found it on serpentine sites on the Teanaway River in the Wenatchee Mountains and on Yellow Aster Butte in the Northern Cascades, as well as in the Olympic Peninsula rainforest. Dwarf maidenhair fern was found on sea cliffs of Vancouver Island, and a day on Mt. Rainier found mountain heaths and heathers, and monkeyflowers.
The talk is free and open to the public.
