The Richmond Historical Society will hold its annual winter meeting at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 21 in the Richmond Free Library Community Room. All are welcome to attend this free event.
Guest presenters Deborah Hardy and Jim Woodman will share their passion for researching and restoring the gravestones of Civil War veterans buried in Vermont. For more than 20 years Woodman has volunteered his time and skills to preserve these monuments, including work done at Richmond’s Riverview and Village Cemeteries. He carefully resets and cleans the stones, reclaiming them from decades of weathering that has often left them broken and illegible. A slide show presentation reveals both the challenges and accomplishments associated with this work.
This event is free and open to the public. It is also handicapped accessible.
A brief business meeting and election of RHS officers will precede the presentation. Refreshments will be served afterward.
