Presentation Title: The Seed Chase: 2015-16 update

Since 2006 at least, our state has been committed to economically supporting ethnic African, Middle Eastern and Asian food crops, designated space for traditional agricultural plots, and ethnic community food distribution. Wiseman will discuss ways that indigenous food systems can gain equivalent appreciation by Vermonters. Wiseman will then share other lessons from a recent conference on Indigenous food systems, as well as new directions and breakthroughs, such as the new crop seeds from the Eastern Townships of Quebec and the Canadian Maritimes; and evidence of prehistoric cultivation in Vermont. He will also discuss new-found food systems partners such as the Maine Penobscots, as well as the latest information on potential Indigenous food sovereignty/food justice partners that have been slowly developing over the last few months.
