Grammy-nominated blues rocker Beth Hart will perform Wednesday, March 2 at St. Johnsbury Academy’s Fuller Hall as part of the KCP Presents Performing Arts Series. Show time is 7:00 pm. Known for her powerhouse vocals and emotionally raw performances, including a Kennedy Center Honors performance that earned her a standing ovation, Huffington Post says Hart has “talent with no ceiling”.
Hart's initial rise to stardom came with her 1999 Billboard hit “LA Song (Out of This Town)”, coupled with a role in the Off-Broadway production of Love, Janis centered on rock star Janis Joplin. Hart’s subsequent spiral downward and eventual recovery from drug addiction is addressed in her more recent work through gritty, visceral performances and disarming lyrics. Her 2003 album Leave the Light On with hit single “Learning to Live” went platinum and brought her renewed fame. She signed with a European record label and has been touring to sell-out crowds in Europe ever since. Europe’s love affair with Hart was solidified with her widely lauded 2005 album Live at Paradiso and 2007’s 37 Days.
Hart’s musicianship and soul-baring vocals – often compared with Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Janis Joplin - have earned her passionate admirers in guitar legends Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck, Slash, and Buddy Guy. Multiple Hart albums have made it to the top of the Billboard Blues Album Chart, including two of her album collaborations with Bonamassa. Hart’s Buddy Guy tribute alongside Jeff Beck at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors earned a standing ovation led by President and Mrs. Barack Obama.
Kirstine Walton of National Blues Review says, “As good a live show as you will ever see ... You can’t afford to miss this one.”
