On Sunday January 31, Mountain River Sangha will host writer and translator David Hinton, author of Hunger Mountain and a recent translation of the I Ching, speaking on the Chan Buddhist poets of 8th and 9th century China, and how they made use of the concept of "mountains and rivers" in their lives, practice and poetry.
He is the first person in more than a century to translate all five masterworks of Chinese philosophy besides the I Ching, as well as many works of classical Chinese poetry. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities and won numerous awards, including for lifetime achievement from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Mountain River Sangha meets in Open Sky Studio at 8b Main Street in Bristol, over Cubber's Restaurant, from 10 AM to noon. We will start with 30 minutes of silent meditation followed a a short break. The talk and question period will follow at approximately 10:40. We'll end with 30 minutes of conversation and fellowship. You may arrive or leave at any time.
Hope to see you, Chris
